For most Sugar Angels, the benefit of participating in an organization like Icing Smiles is the overwhelming joy they get from knowing they made a difference in a family’s life, on one special day. The way a child’s eyes light up when they see a cake designed with love, just for them, is priceless. In anticipation of this moment, our Sugar Angels pour their heart and soul into each and every cake whenever they’re called upon. For our bakers, this focus and drive to create the best possible moment for a family often means trying something new.

This was very much the case for Sugar Angel Melissa when making this celebratory Star Wars cake. This was not going to be Melissa’s first Star Wars cake (and will likely not be her last!) but this time she wanted to try something new. She used this cake as an opportunity to flex her artistic muscles and make a cake like none other! Traditionally cakes are decorated as they are meant to be viewed, meaning the back doesn’t get as much love as the front. That just simply would not do for this cake! Melissa made a 360 degree bottom tier to make sure the cake was just as fascinating from any angle. She also made each tier two flavors, half chocolate and half vanilla, for a little extra flair!

We love to see Sugar Angels testing out new techniques and sharpening their skills to create magical moments. The extra effort will never go unnoticed; the awe and gratitude is written all over a family’s face as soon as they lay eyes on their cake.

It’s this commitment to Baking up Smiles that makes our Sugar Angels shine in whatever they do!

The Force is Strong with Hannah! For All Our Star Wars Fans!

Just two days after she was born, a mass was found on her back during an ultrasound. After a month of tests, the doctors confirmed that the mass was rhabdomyosarcoma, a tumor of the soft tissue and muscles that help the body move.

While the news came as a shock, Hannah’s family wasted no time in getting her the best treatment they could find. Through all of the ups and downs, pokes and prods, Hannah kept up her fighting spirit. Even after undergoing over five surgeries, multiple rounds of chemo, and countless doctor visits all before her second birthday, her parents could see her fighting to keep up with her walking and talking milestones

After 18 months, Hannah had been cancer free! Her parents anxiously waited to find out if she would be finished with her chemo; they could just imagine all the things she could do once the treatments are over! Everyone was ecstatic when they heard the news – no more chemo for Hannah!

She had finally crossed the most important milestone in her journey, and what better way to celebrate than cake? Icing Smiles and baker Victoria were proud to help Hannah celebrate her accomplishment with a Star Wars cake! Follow Hannah’s journey on her family’s facebook page.
