Shannon loves to dance and never lets anything stop her from pursuing her passion. Back in 2015, she was diagnosed with Stage 3c Nodular Melanoma. She and her family set off right away doing everything they could to make sure she got better. Shannon had to undergo four surgeries to remove the primary tumor from the top of her head. After that, she underwent two additional surgeries to reconstruct her scalp where the tumor was removed. As tough as these surgeries were, Shannon powered through to achieve remission! She was able to get back to her normal daily routine, which of course includes a lot of dancing.

Two years later, she was hit with major news: a lump under her skin was determined to be the melanoma that had returned. What’s more, the cancer was now at Stage 4. Shannon didn’t let this news knock her down; after an entire year of treatment and surgeries, she has made it back into remission! Now having graduated high school, she’s planning her future as a dance major when she goes off to college.

Icing Smiles practically pirouetted with joy when we got the opportunity to help Shannon celebrate her 18th birthday! Sugar Angel Merari sashayed into the party with a whimsical ballerina themed cake. We were so happy to help Shannon and her family celebrate this major milestone and dance on into her future!
