It’s All About the Smiles: From the Hearts of our Medical Families

BRETT
“Brett was diagnosed with ALL leukemia in March 2014. His treatment protocol required 2 years and 7 months of chemo and steroids and weekly appointments. We celebrated the end of treatment with a fall festival type party with hay rides, live music, pumpkin painting, and fireworks. Oh and of course food and an out of this world cake! It was a perfect celebration to mark the end of a really long chapter in Brett’s life! Our experience was better than I expected. The delivery and set up of the cake by Stacey’s Sweets was very special and created a beautiful memory for our family.”

AMELIA
“In November of 2015, after bouts with severe headaches and vomiting, it was found that Amelia had a brain tumor. The tumor was removed on November 20th and the day before Thanksgiving we were given the initial diagnosis of Glioblastoma, an incredibly aggressive form of brain cancer. We didn’t have a big birthday party for Amelia when she turned 8 so for her 9th birthday we decided to do it up right. This included the incredible Icing Smiles cake made by Rosalynne. Amelia loves pigs and Rosalynne made her the most adorable and delicious pig cake. The cake and party were a huge success. The day was incredible! The experience was fantastic! We are so grateful for Icing Smiles and Rosalynne!”

ETHAN
“Ethan is the big brother to Nolan, who was born Tricuspid Atresia- essentially half a beating heart. Nolan has had multiple minor procedures and one open heart surgery with another scheduled next year. He sees multiple specialists for an array of issues, not a week passes without an appointment of some sort. Ethan’s been such an amazing big brother, he’s Nolan’s biggest protector, cheerleader, teacher, and friend. Ethan often gets overshadowed by Nolan’s condition so it was much appreciated when Shannon offered to make Ethan’s amazing birthday cake and let Ethan take center stage and shine. Such a sweet gesture for a big brother who does do much! Shannon was AMAZING to work with, she’s as kind as she is creative!”

CARTER
“Carter entered the world abruptly 6 weeks premature. Carter was told many things that would never happen; he would never walk, function normally, didn’t have a high change of making it home and ultimately living past the age of 20. He’s continued to prove the many doctors wrong from day one and overcome a 42 NICU stay. He started walking at the age of 2 1/2, amazing ALL of his doctors. His neurologist even said, “Don’t listen to me about Carter’s milestones, listen to Carter. Only he knows where he will be going and how much progress he will be making.” I have faith that Carter will live well beyond their hopes! Vanesa made the process such an amazing and pleasurable experience! I recommend her to everyone that’s asked. Carter loved his cake and kept sharing it with everyone.”
