Adeline the AMAZING Big Sister!

Super Siblings

Did you know we also serve siblings of qualified medical children, including siblings of qualified medical children who have earned their wings within the last two years? Siblings are limited to two cakes through our program: one fun cake and one dream in two different years while the family is eligible.

Today we welcome Adeline’s mom as a guest blogger to share her story of her sweet son Bennett, AMAZING daughter Adeline, and her Icing Smiles experience.

Adeline is the AMAZING big sister to Bennett. For nearly three years, Bennett fiercely fought an extremely rare mitochondrial disease called Pearson Syndrome. Mitochondrial disease affects numerous organs and systems in the body. One thing it caused for Bennett was a need to have red blood transfusions every two weeks for two years. A bone marrow transplant helped with that in December 2014.

His body was always immunocompromised which made it hard to fight bad germs. In November 2014, he had to have his left foot amputated to get rid of a deadly fungal infection. After pre-leukemia cells appeared in his body, he successfully endured a bone marrow transplant in December 2014.

Late in spring 2015, his lungs got very sick from a cold and pneumonia. He battled hard but passed away June 17, 2015.

The family shared, “Icing Smiles and Baked In Moore brought joy in the midst of our sorrow this fall. The smile on Adeline’s face when she saw her cake was priceless! Her 7th birthday Tangled cake was unbelievable!!!! Baked In Moore did an outstanding job. There will never be another cake like it!!”
